Jaguar E-Type: A Celebration of the World's Favouite '60s Icon
(Haynes Great Cars) by Nigel Thorley
Reviewer: Mark T. Shipley from Thousand Oaks, CA United States
This is a fantastic book. It's great to see the two earliest E-Types in existence, featured in the same pages. Someone looking for volumes of technical and restoration information will be disappointed, but the photography is excellent. The book also features photos not often seen in color, as well as early (and now rare) brochure material. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has even a passing interest in E-Types. It's an excellent value for the money.

The Most Famous Car in the World by Philip Porter
Dramatic good looks, a pure racing pedigree, and genuinely sensational performance: when its prototype emerged from the factory's gates in 1961, the Jaguar 9600 HP set a new standard for automotive glory. Even now, nearly four decades later, its fame has endured. After a pre-release period of intense testing by leading magazines and distinguished international journalists (not to mention breaking speed barriers) this gunmetal gray roadster led an exciting life. It "modeled" for catalogs, was used for publicity stunts, belonged to a high-profile film director, passed to several auto enthusiasts, and finally, into the hands of author Philip Porter. In 1999, through the talents of Jaguar's most skilled specialists, the 9600 HP underwent a total, fanatical restorations-and now it is shared with all the world. Enjoy this tribute to a legend of the road-how it came to be, what it did, who owned it, and how it was restored to its former magnificence.

Jaguar E-Type: The Complete Story by Jonathan Wood
This 200 page, 150 picture, 50 chart book is a great overview of the XK-E's produced from 1961 to 1974. A nice history of the company and the model, this allows the complete novice to talk intelligently with Jag lovers. It is possibly an inexpensive beginning to an E-Type love affair with attendant significant wallet hemorage.

Jaguar E-Type: The Definitive History by Philip Porter
Phillip Porter's reference on the Jaguar E-Type that other authors cite as their source. This is a must read if you are at all interested in E-Types. Some of it may not be too flattering to Sir Wm Lyons or Jaguar but it tells the story as only an insider could. You will learn about the inspiration, design, developement, manufacture and end of production of the model

Jaguar E-Type: 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide (Authentic Restoration Guide) by Thomas F., Dr. Haddock
Reviewer: A reader from California,USA
This book describes in detail the Series 2 and Series 3 E-type changes during production and lists serial number changes for the restorer who must know exactly the equipment on his/her vehicle. The black/white photographs are very detailed, and a handy reference. As always though, the exact serial number model of a specific change can be in doubt, so a good cross-reference guide on Series 3 is"Jaguar V-12 E-Type: A Guide to Authenticity" by Richard T. Russ with color photographs and details on the plating and color of various nuts, bolts, and equipment. The Restoration Guide, in my opinion, is an excellent companion to your sevice manual and parts catalogue.

Excellent book on rebuilding the classic Jaguar XK engine in it's various permutations. Some history on the development as well. A real inside look at all of the internals of this engine. As a bonus, there is also a quick teardown and rebuild of much of the independent rear suspension unit. Covers everything except the actual rebuild of the differential. Also a bonus section on the SU carburettor. This book is required reading if you plan to do any of your own engine work. The photos are first rate, many in color. This is a collection of articles that previously appeared in Jaguar Quarterly (now Jaguar World) Magazine

Rolls Royce Silver Shadow: The Complete Story
by Graham Robson
Reviewer: Richard C Butler from Melbourne, Victoria Australia
This is a magnificent text on one of the most successfully designed and constructed cars ever built. Readers will be transported to the world of the late 1950's when against all tradition the world's finest car builder successfully questioned their strategy to produce chassis based vehicles and then spend the next 10 years developing the Silver Shadow and Bentley T1. You will gain an understanding of the boldness of the plans to build the worlds finest monocoque car, understand the influence of Mercedes Benz and General Motors and then see how the Silver Shadow was designed, manufactured and assembled in trully hand built form. Not content to leave the readers in a time capsule of the 1960's - there is extremely interesting information on the Shadow's derivatives - the mark 2, the corniche, camargue and other cars leading into the mid 1980's. This is an indespensable text on a motoring icon - but also learn about the economic conditions, the American market influences and the clarity and focus of the company that set out to build a pillar of motoring history. Not to be missed !!

A nice looking book with fine color plates. The text is not bad, but contains many minor errors of fact as well as a few major ones, for example: 1)the Mark VI Bentley was NOT AT ALL 'identical' to the prewar Mark V; 2)the Company did not set up a plant next to the Crewe works to 'build' the standard steel bodies - they were shipped in from Pressed Steel Company and fine-tuned, painted and trimmed by Rolls-Royce. These are not critical for the casual reader, but are surprising in that Reg Abbiss, well-known and respected among Rolls-Royce enthusiasts, was involved with the author in development of the book. Nevertheless, apart from a few clangers like the above, it is a book worth having.

I found this book to be helpful in obtaining more knowledge on the Rolls Royce and Bentley cars. I would have like to have seen charts on the number of cars produced how they got their names, and more technical information. The book has some beautiful pictures of these fine cars as well as some original factory sales information. The book explains the detail that the builders go through to make each of these cars and how the evolution takes place from year to year. I would recommend this book to anyone who is an owner or is an enthusiast of fine automobiles.

Rolls-Royce & Bentley: The History of the Cars
by Martin Bennett
While not the largest reference on Rolls-Royce & Bentley, this book is one of the most pleasurable I've read on the subject. It is very well presented, concise, informative and readable. Beginning with the first Royce cars of 1904, the book continues chronologically through the 1996 models. I most enjoyed the sections on the Silver Ghost & those on the later models which are given equal coverage with the popular middle year cars. The numerous illustrations are very well selected. Especially nice are chassis line drawings for most models and many good interior photos. The color photo gallery in the center is beautiful. Another useful feature is a technical specification chart, including chassis numbers, for each series. If you would like to invest in just one book to tell the story of Rolls-Royce & Bentley, this would be an excellent choice.
